Every Kilim has a special story to tell through the unique symbols, motifs, and colours. These abstract symbols include 'wolf's-mouth', 'bird', 'scorpion', 'comb', 'eye', 'fertility', 'star', 'dragon' and 'burdock' among a few, speak an exotic & cryptic language whose meaning vary according to their placement in the pattern. The lore of Kilims design and symbolism is as rich and complex as the combined heritage of cultures that gave them birth and contributed to their evolution. The origin can be traced back to Middle East and Central Asian Countries. A Killim (the word comes from the Turkish language meaning prayer-rug) is a tapestry woven rug as opposed to a knotted rug with pile.
