The general term "Persian" is probably one of the most commonly applied labels to Oriental carpets and rugs. As a geographical label, however is in some respect vague, for its borders have varied from time to time. The original designs were inspired by Kerman, Kashan & Isfahan etc. The Moghal Dynasty in the sub-continent brought these designs from Persia to the Indo-Pak region. Persian rugs have many features which makes them attractive. This is achieved by the ingenuity of the weavers, who mix various combinations of traditional motifs and patterns to produce rugs each with an identity of its own.
