Tabriz leads its name from a city in Iran called Tabriz, which was once the capital. The city of Tabriz has had a chequered history because of invasions by armies and several devastated earthquakes. Situated as it is in the North West of Iran.

Indo Mahi Tabriz Rugs are woven in Rajasthan in Northern India. They are amongst the finest weaves available. The pile is all wool and is beautifully inlayed with Silk. The design is similar to that of a Persian Mahi Tabriz with an elongated central medallion and a floral border.

In the fine rugs the pile is extremely compact but can be somewhat course, as the wool itself is course, a feature which is often accentuated by the fact that is dyed and washed in water with a high salt content.
